| Opplysninger | During my final year of my Masters in Measurement and Evaluation at American University (AU) in 2019, I conducted my final practicum, or work placement program for students to gain practical work experience, with a health network based in Washington D.C. that provides a full range of health and human services to meet the needs of their populations through a network of over 20 traditional and nontraditional health sites. AU's Measurement and Evaluation program is an online degree that uses practicums to support student learning. In these practicums, students partner with organizations to gain practical work experience. In my case, I partnered with several organizations to carry out qualitative and quantitative research and evaluations. Although I had done face-to-face work for other practicums, I conducted my final practicum virtually due to my living outside of Washington D.C. I evaluated the organization's initiative programming aimed at addressing the unmet care management needs of beneficiaries, most are members of the homeless or unstably housed community, who have had preventable utilization of emergency medical services, avoidable emergency department services and hospital admissions, and poor health outcomes. I conducted mixed-methods research using two qualitative and quantitative surveys to answer five research questions related to enhancing program patient and staff satisfaction. Very important to my research, I employed strategic outreach and rapport-building strategies to foster a collaborative working relationship online. The goal of this case study is to illustrate effective strategies for building rapport in an online setting and offer reflections on challenges and lessons learned. This case study details those strategies by illustrating my efforts in establishing foundational rapport through initial contact and enhancing rapport through continued, effective communication.
