This compilation PhD thesis consists of an introductory chapter and four related but separately published articles with independent findings. The introductory chapter discusses the overall aim of the thesis and explains how the four articles, and their independent conclusions, fit together as a comprehensive research contribution to the field of international relations and the study of Japanese foreign policy.
