Abstract: The Hopkins Verbal Learning Test (HVLT) was applied in an evalualtion of memory difficulties in normal healthy elderly volunteers and patients who were referrals to an outaptient geriatric clinic. The patients were divided into three subgroups based on clinical diagnosis: Probable Alzheimer's disease, patients with different kind of cerebral injuries and diseases, and a group where no cerebral injury was diagnosed. the Alzheimer patients performed worse then the other subjects on most of the subtests on the HVLT. The two other patient groups performed similar to the normal healthy volunteers on the first immidiate verbal recall. However, their performance declined compared to the normal volunteers across trials. The performance on delayed recall was significantly below the healthy volunteers performance for all three patients groups.
