It is 1964 and racism is still rife in Jackson, Mississippi. After taking a job at the local newspaper, strong-willed Southern belle Skeeter (Emma Stone) decides to write a book about the experiences of the black maids who work for her and her contemporaries (played by Bryce Dallas Howard, Ahna O'Reilly, Jessica Chastain, Allison Janney and Sissy Spacek).
