Opplysninger | This case study discusses how researchers can publicize studies, recruit participants, establish rapport, all online, without having access to social media. Based on a small qualitative study undertaken in the Midwestern region of the United States, the case study teaches how members of marginalized communities can be invited to partake in research. Seeking research participants through social media is not new. The author argues that publicizing research through various social media platforms does not take the place of building rapport with participants in order to increase the potential contribution of participants. The conclusion suggests that rather than an easy recruitment method, gathering participants online requires several additional steps in order to yield good data.
