Opplysninger
During the COVID-19 pandemic, adapting traditional in-person data collection methodologies into online data collection has become essential. For this case study, the process of adapting the traditional mirror tracing task into an online measure of behavioral perseverance is described. The mirror tracing task involves participants drawing shapes as if they are reflected in a mirror (i.e., in the reverse direction), and the time they persist at this task provides a good measure of behavioral perseverance. This case study examines a novel way of using the mirror tracing task as a measure of behavioral perseverance as well as how to use this methodology in an entirely virtual setting for data collection. Many challenges were encountered throughout the adaptation of the online mirror tracing task, which includes selecting an appropriate measure of behavioral perseverance, confronting challenges of using a public website, and piloting the study. Considerations for other adaptations of online research methodologies are described.
