Opplysninger
This case study investigates the unique challenges and novel affordances of conducting pedagogical research online. With the growing popularity of online learning, course assignments, learning approaches, and standards of evaluation have adapted rapidly, introducing new questions about the effectiveness of pedagogical strategies in this format. At the same time, technological features common to most videoconferencing platforms allow classic pedagogical techniques-like small-group work-to be formally researched in ways they had not been before. By reflecting upon the design and conduct of online pedagogical research on the effects of small-group discussions on key learning outcomes, the reader will learn how pedagogical research can be effectively administered using online tools, how the dual role of course instructor and pedagogical researcher can be managed, how student learning objectives can be maximized and measured for publication, and how to create an online research environment that does not interfere with course learning objectives.
