ABSTRACT: The litterature has suggested that residents with dementia are more apt to suffer from nutritional difficulties and weight loss as compared to other residents in long term care facilities. This article will discuss the negative impact dementia symptoms have on normal eating patterns and nutritional intake. Interventions to minimize weight loss will be introduced and described as a part of a unique assisted dining program called "Caring Hands".
