Avhandling (doktorgrad) - Lunds universitet, 1995. - ABSTRACT: The general aim of the thesis was to describe and analyse the implemention of group living (GL) as a new model of care for elderly demented people in Malmö, south Sweden, its outcome on patioents and staff and its limitations and possibilities.. - Abstract er lenger, men avsluttes her.. - Three study cohorts and designs were used. (1) Patients to be relocated into three GL units (n=28) were compared to a control group of patientsremaining in traditional institutional care (TI) and followed by assessments for three years. The two groups were matched as to type and level of dementia, age and ADL-dependency. The staff of these groups were followed up by interviews.(2) Patients at the breaking-point, when home-care had become insufficient (n=79), were examined and assessed before relocation to GL-. Their significant family caregivers were described and interviewed. The correlation between the patient's symptoms and the caregiving burden were analysed.
