Opplysninger
In 2020, we organized a research project to analyze student experiences as part of a larger service-learning experience involving their leadership in student voter registration. When the pandemic hit, most of our original activities and approaches had to be significantly revised, but we did not have to sacrifice our goals or the outcomes of the project. Students were organizing a voter registration drive that would have door-to-door canvassing and tabling components, and the researchers were evaluating how their political attitudes and engagement changed throughout their participation. Because the institution transitioned to virtual courses, both the research and the service-learning project had to change to being primarily virtual as well. This change was daunting and required some substantial revision, but ultimately yielded a fantastic opportunity to re-envision a new approach that actually offered some advantages that would have otherwise been unknown. This case study traces the changes, describes the key changes and analyzes their impact, and offers applicable tips and suggestions for others considering adopting or adapting aspects of this study to utilize in their own work.
