Opplysninger
Basal and stimulated (by L-glutamic acid, GA) levels ofthiobarbituric-acid-reactive products were estimated in the braintissue (hippocampus, cortex and cerebellum) from autopsy samples ofpeople with Alzheimer disease (AD), multi-infarct dementia (MID) andfrom nondemented control patients. The experiment was also performedon biopsy brain tissue (cortex) of nondemented controls. The biopsybrain tissue influenced by normal aging in vivo showed a limitedsusceptibility to undergo lipid peroxidation stimulated by GA invitro in comparison with the younger tissue. A significant decreasein the ratio of stimulated to basal levels was found in thecerebellum of MID patients in comparison with nondemented controlsand AD patients.
