This study aims to explore the effect of exposure to snus in pregnancy on infant lung function, measured with tidal flow-volume (TFV) loops, using data from PreventADALL study. Among 2366 women, snus use was uncommon, reportedly 6.5% of the 1133 who answered questions about snus use in pregnancy. The study identified a trend towards reduced TFV ratios in infants exposed to snus. That TFV measures are modified by exposure to snus in pregnancy suggests an adverse effect on infant lung function, which may have long-term consequences. As TFV measures are influenced by multiple factors, including maternal smoking and infant characteristics, further studies are needed to confirm findings and explore mechanisms. This study highlights the importance of addressing snus use in pregnancy and provides a preliminary approach to advise against any use of nicotine-containing products in pregnancy."
