Han opptrådte på Bill Monroe's Bean Blossom Festival i 1993 som 13-åring. Han har spilt sammen med Allison Krauss ved "The Grand Ole Opry". Cleveland ble med "The Coon Creek Girls" og deretter "Rhonda Vincent and The Rage" før han gikk solo og dannet et eget band. I 2000 ble han tildelt "International Bluegrass Music Association's Instrumental Performer of The Year" for sitt spill på Vincents' "Back Home Again". Han har gitt to soloalbum "Flame Keeper" (2002) og "Let'Er go, Boys" (2006).
