| During the second half of the nineteenth century several children and grandchildren of Kirsten Christophersdatter Tufte (1780 – 1847) and her husband Steen Andersen Tufte (1770 – 1855) emigrated to the United States, including to Iowa and Walworth Counties in Wisconsin. Almost all of them would never return to the old country. As a result, to this day a number of their descendants live across the United States and for them Kirsten and Steen were their last ancestors to be born and to die in Norway. This book uses the available public records to identify the couple’s first and second generation descendants who either emigrated to America or were already born there. In particular, the genealogy includes sketches of several Tufte descendants whose whereabouts in the New World were previously unknown but have now been documented here. Before diving into their American descendants, the book also traces Kirsten and Steen’s female and male ancestral lines, respectively, as far back as possible by making use of the relatively extensive and well-preserved records held by Norwegian state archives. Other farm names and last names studied in this genealogy include Baxaas/Baksaas, Faehn, Graver, Haatvedt/Haatved/Hotved, Heisholt/Heysholt, Hoff, Johnson, Kestol, Mandt, Melfald/Melfad, Melteig/Melteij, Steensen/Steenson, Stephens/Stevens, Tvedt, Wigdale, Wibetoe/Vibeto.
