| Opplysninger | Issued on the occasion of the exhibition held at the David Zwirner Gallery, New York, March 16-April 22, 2023. - Minimal Level Cataloging Plus. - "the pictures are a selection of 100 photographs that Gerhard Richter took of abstract lacquer works, or of the surface of the varnish tubs with which he produces these works. For the production of these coincidence compositions he mixes varnishes of different color. When he likes an instantaneous state, he puts a glass pane or a sheet of paper on the selected section and fixes the image one to one on the glass or paper (see attached PDF of my book, which illustrates this process). Likewise, the texts are also "random abstract texts". The origin and content of the text -- in contrast to other books by Richter -- actually plays no role. I used an American English essay on Richter, so that the the frequency and composition of the letters corresponds to the English reading habits. At Richter's request, I deleted all punctuation, capitalization etc., and diced the letters with a random number generator. Richter designed close to 100 different line formations (see attached jpg) for the text pages, which were filled with the generated letter sequences. So in the end, we have abstract images combined with abstract text. The selection and sequence of the images and texts are a composition by Richter"--
