| Opplysninger | "Simply put a clinical trial can be described as a planned scientific study involving human participants which is conducted to learn about the safety and effect (e.g. "efficacy") of a medical treatment or related care. The intention is to undertake a scientific (and objective) assessment which allows quantification of impact at least numerically, and typically, statistically. Here, the word "clinical" refer to human participants and separates out clinical trials from purely laboratory studies which focus on human cells. It also excludes animal studies (e.g. studies looking at the effect of a drug on mice). It also indicate the focus is on medical care. This includes preventative treatments (e.g. vaccination for a novel coronavirus) and diagnostic approaches (e.g. screening and use of diagnostic tests such as like Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machines) as well as what we might at first come to mind, such as the use of a novel cancer drug. In this book reference will typically be made to "treatments" for convenience, though clinical trials can involve interventions of various kinds" --
