Opplysninger | Working for Shell International between 1995 and 2000 I was a participant in three wide ranging, organisational, transformation initiatives. These were in Sarawak Shell Berhad, an oil and gas exploration and production operating company. Then following my return to Shell International Exploration and Production BV, in The Hague, I was a member of the Team which implemented the initiative - Organisational Alignment and High Performance through Self-managing Teams and Balanced Scorecards. Lastly I accepted the challenge of joining the Leadership and Performance Team (LEAP) charged with the goal of fundamentally changing the way Shell did its business world wide. After leaving Shell I had the opportunity to live up to one of the process sets we set our clients of "Review". I would write an After Action Review of what we set out to achieve; the methods we employed; and attempt a judgement as to what worked and what didn't and why. To provide focus in this exercise I set myself two basic questions to answer. Firstly "Had I a more comprehensive understanding of Organisational Development theory would I have acted differently and would the outcome of my transformational efforts been improved?" The second question was "Has Shell now,or will it in the near future, achieve its "Vision" as set out by the Committee of Managing Directors in mid '95, and communicated to all staff in the booklet "Shell Business Framework - Coming to grips with our future - Getting the best from our past." The LEAP Teams mission was to facilitate the transformation necessary to implement and reach his Vision. How did we do when judged against out our goals? This text seeks to answer these questions by a rigorous review of the mechanism by which change was planned and implemented. Then given the luxury of hindsight what were the lessons to be learnt and would the transformation "stick" and meet its initial goals.
