| Produksjonsår: 1945. - Preminger followed his critical and commercial hit Laura (1944) with this unjustly neglected film noir. Dana Andrews, a drifter with a dubious past, arrives in a small coastal town and quickly attaches himself to a phoney psychic. He schemes to marry a prim but wealthy local woman (Alice Faye), and promptly divorce her in favour of a seen-it-all waitress (Linda Darnell). However, events conspire against him and all three characters prove to be not what they seem.
