Opplysninger | Blockade is a 2006 documentary film by Sergei Loznitsa. The film was shot with no dialogue and consists of black and white footage shot during the Siege of Leningrad. It has a run time of 52 minutes. 'The documentary moves from initial depiction of military measures, and the marching of German prisoners of war through the hostile city streets, to the upheaval facing the city - the bombed out buildings and ice slicked streets -the increasingly horrific reality of wartime Leningrad - cloth wrapped bodies being dragged to mass graves upon sleds. Revue is based on archive propaganda newsreels produced in the USSR in the 1950s and 60s. It shows the almost forgotten side of the Soviet times and the way of thinking at that period. It explores the life of people all across the vast expanse of the Soviet Motherland, though full of hardship, deprivation and absurd rituals, but at the same time illuminated by the ‘glorious shining of the communist illusion’. Landscape (2008) - Harch, self-consuming stylistic exercise introduces nearly a single moving scene, throught which the winter landscaped curled in itself seems to watch those who really want to see it. A church with the plaster flaking off, wooden houses at the edge of a field, a road leading out of a provincial town in the middle Russia, and finally - human faces covering it all, turning together inside an artful laboratory of a single movement. Layered sounds of the square, dogs and birds, train and people, of all thise moving things, create a unique atmosphere of a place covered with snow, where dozens of passengers wait at a bus stop. Sentences are evaporating in the freezing air, people are swaying, characters are talking, touching each other with their voices, their sounds being so close their sounds being the only thing that can define the variable borders of bodies within the peopled solitude of this long panorama.
