Opplysninger
This handbook starts with some background information about Norway, especially factors influencing the country’s record-keeping. The authors stress the need for performing some effective research in one’s own country before making the leap to Norwegian records. We learn about two emigrants from Norway, Anna who came from a rural district in central Norway to Minnesota; and Ingvald who came from the capital, Oslo, to New Zealand. We learn more about them and their family background throughout the book, in examples from census records, parish registers, and various archival resources. Norwegian farm books are a special aid to people researching ancestors from rural areas. We become familiar with the most important types of genealogical record in Norway; and learn how to put some flesh on our ancestor’s bones using digitized newspapers, photographs, maps, books, artifacts from museums and so on. The book concludes with some advice on heritage travel.
