Opplysninger
This case study introduces the use of the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) publicly available data for linear regression. Our case uses an example of exploring the relationship between Advanced Placement (AP) course-taking, while in high school, on student science, technology, engineering, and mathematics grades upon enrolment to public 4-year universities. We provide step-by-step guidance on how to use the NCES web-based tool-PowerStats. Next, we guide readers through selecting a database, using the NCES codebook to select variables, performing linear regression, and saving results. We discuss the benefits and limitations of using NCES data. Finally, we discuss when users should consider applying for a restricted-use data.
