Innhold: Since 1912, No. 1 Squadron has played a key role in supporting troops at the front line. This unique video history traces the development of Britain's longest established squadron from the very earliest days of the Royal Flying Corps right through to its present role as a crack R.A.F. interceptor / ground support squadron flying Harriers. Historic archive film vividly captures the squadron in action during both world wars, flying Sopwith Camels and S.E.5's in ground support roles during World War One and Hurricanes as a crack interceptor squadron during the Battle of Britain, before resuming their ground attack role over occupied Europe with Hawker Typhoons. The first squadron equipped with Meteor jets, No. 1 Squadron also flew Hawker Hunters before becoming the very first operational Harrier Squadron in 1969. The video also explores the vital role of No. 1 Squadron today, with rare and exclusive footage filmed as the squadron embark on N.A.T.O. exercises north of the Artic Circle, practice dogfights against Aggressor Squadron 'Mig 21 's' in Sardinia and then fly actual combat sorties in the skies over the Falklands.
