| Opplysninger | Introduction: The eating problems of senile demented patients in the final stage of teh disease have been described (1). A description was also given of the caregivers' experience of the problem of keeping the patient alive and/or accepting his death. That dealt with how caregivers experience care. The aim of this paper is to describe the routines of taking care of senile demented patients in hospitals in the south of Sweden in relation to the problem of "keeping alive" or "allowing to die".
