There is an increasing demand for measures which permit theassessment of the effectiveness of psychosocial interventions incommunity care. Existing measures of objective and subjective burdenhave limited utility because they have not been adequatelypsychometrically evaluated. A full psychometric evaluation of twocommonly used measures of objective and subjective burden wasconducted amongst 114 dementia caregivers. The patterns ofassociation obtained between the two measures suggest that the use ofthis technique in caregiver assessment may assist in the targeting ofappropriate interventions.
