Opplysninger
The cerebellum is a relatively neglected area of the Alzheimer'sdisease (AD) brain, probably because it was formerly thought to bespared by the disease. However, a number of pathological changes havenow been revealed in the AD cerebellum, principally byimmunocytochemical studies, including widespread deposits of diffuseamyloid, ubiquitin-immunoreactive dystrophic neurites, and increasedmicroglia, but tau-immunoreactive neurofibrillary tangles have notbeen seen. Although the observed changes may be merely epiphenomenalto the pathological processes occurring in the AD neocortex andhippocampus, the morphological and immunocytochemical differencesbetween AD cerebral cortex and cerebellar cortex may nonetheless giveinsights into the molecular factors involved in the development ofthe neuropathological lesions of AD brain.
