Opplysninger
The newer antipsychotics and antidepressants offer distinct clinicaladvantages over older agents. Specifically, treatment with theatypical antipsychotic agents clozapine and risperidone has resultedin greater reduction in negative symptoms associated withschizophrenia. Also, the atypical antipsychotic drugs have beenassociated with a lower risk of extrapyramidal symptoms, such asparkinsonism and tardive dyskinesia, relative to typical agents. Forantidepressants, the safety profile of the selective serotoninreuptake inhibitors nefazodone and venlafaxine, in terms ofanticholinergic side effects, cardiac toxicity, and overdoselethality, is superior to the older tricyclic antidepressants andmonoamine oxidase inhibitors.
