Background: The 16-items Informant Questionnaire on Cognitive Decline in the Elderly (IQCODE) is widely used in assessment of elderly subjects. Aima of the study were to examine the factor structure of the Norwegian 16-item IQCODE and the correlaions of the questionnaire with the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) and subtests of the brief cognitive test batteries Seven Minute Screen (7MS) and SKT. Methods: The subjects were 95 outpatient clinic patients aged 65 years and above. All subjects had a score of 22 to 30 on the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE). Factor analysis was carried out using principal component analysis of the 16 items, and correlation analysis was carried out by comparing the 16-item IQCODE to the MMSE, 7MS and SKT scores. Result: Internal consistency was high and factor structure analysis revealed one large general factor. The correlation between 16-item IQCODE and MMSE was -3.1, and ranged from 0.19 to -0.43 for 7MS measures, and .07 to .44 for SKT measures. Highest correlations were obtained for memory measures in 7MS and SKT. Conclusion: The results confirm previous studies of the factor structure of IQCODE showing one large general factor. The highest correlation was found for the memory mesures in 7MS and SKT.
